Description
English: Ganesh (a.k.a. Ganesha) at the Calgary Zoo, Calgary, Alberta. Information plaque reads: "Historically, zoos have displayed wildlife from a science-based perspective. Modern zoos now recognize that animals are revered as important symbols in many societies. This representation of Ganesh is recognizable throughout Asia, where our elephants originate, and is a stunning example of how animals form a common cultural bond among people from diverse regions of the world."
