English: 1880s photo. Sam Clemens’s (Mark Twain’s) wife and daughters. Sam Clemens wrote books including as Tom Sawyer. Clara Clemens (1874 – 1962) was his second daughter. She sang and played the piano and gave occasional recitals. She wrote a memoir about her father that was published in 1931. Jean Clemens (1880 – 1909) was his youngest daughter. She typed for her father, rode horses, and favored human and animal rights. Livy Clemens (1845 – 1904) was his wife. Her father was a wealthy coal merchant. She went to college. She edited his manuscripts. Susy Clemens (1872 – 1896) was his eldest daughter. She was interested in drama and in writing, according to Autobiography of Mark Twain, Volume I, published by University of California Press.
