Wikimedia Ethics/Feedback 2

This feedback page is part of the Ethical Management of the English Language Wikipedia learning resource, where readers may give feedback in a similar way to how feedback is given in "brick and mortar" classrooms. Four questions are asked by the survey template, including three that are "show of hands" type questions, and one "short answer". Please do not use this page as a place for discussion and debate: if you have a question or comment about one or more of the responses, you can either ask them personally on their talk page, or bring it up for discussion on the main talk page for the project.

OpenID allows people to be verified but to keep such result anonymous to the end-service, like the wiki. IPv4 signatures are really anonymous, but a proxy, that has verified users, increases anonymity where the wiki never has to know the true identity because the wiki trusts the proxy for verification. That means the wiki doesn't need to verify identities. I don't feel people need to be coerced to reveal their identity and their academic credentials, so they should be able to opt-out of that. If someone choses to assert their academic credentials, then we should be able to verify it.
