Projection TV

[edit | edit source]

This project is to reverse engineer a projection TV that Scott and I salvaged from a dumpster on November 11, 2014.

Manufacturer's Label

[edit | edit source]

The manufacturer's label was stuck to the back of the back panel. Scott and I left the back panel in the dumpster because it was big and bulky, and we didn't need it. On November 12, I copied the information from the label. The label said:

"Sony Color Rear Video Projector Model: KP-46S25 AC: 120V 60Hz Ser. 9019336

Product of Sony Electronics INC. Westmoreland Co. PA. 15666

Manufactured November, 1996"

on UL logo (written around edge of circular logo):

"Listed 9C06 Audio/Video Product"

In a separate box on the label:

"Sony Corporation 7-35 Kitashinagawa 6-Chrome, Shinagawa-KU Tokyo, 141 Japan"

(I suspect this is the address of Sony's corporate headquarters)

Online Documentation

[edit | edit source]

On November 12, I did an initial search for manuals and related literature online. I found:\

Problems

[edit | edit source]
  • One CRT board is missing
  • Boards are very dusty, need to be cleaned before powering up
  • Many other parts missing
  • Cut ends of wires are loose

Next Steps

[edit | edit source]
  • take a picture of the manufacturer's label, or find a copy online (mabye Ebay, Amazon)
  • clean the dust off the board,
  • document the current condition
  • take photos of lables, signs, semiconductor part numbers, etc, before powering up
  • read the service manual and other literature above
