The first world war took place in Europe, from France to Russia and lots inbetween. There is much contravercy why is was started, but the root cause was Austria-Hungary's hier to the throne, Arch Duke Francis Ferdinand's assassination. But, though this sparked the war, a lot of termoil took place before that helped the War Begin. Reasons For the War:

1) Germany's Strength Ever Since Germany was United, it was building up its Army and before the World War One, had built up a very powerful amry and navy, only Britian's was better. So, they wanted to show off thier power by taking over land. The onyl thing they waited on was a reason to begin war, and the reason was coming soon.

2) Termoil with Countries Other Countries saw Germany's strength and were fearful. Some sided with Germany, thinking they could benefit from her power. (Treaties with Germany) Those countries were Austria- Hungary, Russia, and a few more. But the others signed treaties with Britain. All that needed to happen was an inncident and war would break out with in these nervous countries. It was almost like every one was ready to jump up and fire as soon as danger was threatened.

What Started the War:

Austria-Hungary's (Let's call them AH) King or ruler had been very, very popular amoung the Austrians. During his rien, they had taken the territory of some countries, including the small land of Serbia. But, the ruler was getting old and ready to retire and die. He chose his hier (he had no blood hiers) as Arch-Duke Francis Ferdinand. So, to let the people know of their new ruler, the rulers planned a road trip around AH and colonise. The Arch Duke then rode around with his wife in an open car. While driving in Serbia, a Serbian youth who was part of a terrist group against all Austria-Hungrians shot the Arch Duke and his wife without any warning. They both died instantly. But,a few more from the terrorist group had forced their car to turn down an alley by throwing little granades towards the Arch Duke. It was planned to get them to turn down this alley, so that the Arch Duke could easily be shot. Austria-Hungary was enraged and declared war on Serbia. Serbia begged countries for help and Russia lent a hand. One by one, the countries of Europe got entangled on the war. Germany was estatic at helping AH, so they immediatly joined.
