Sam Vaknin is arguably one of the world’s leading authorities on malignant narcissism. Dr Vaknin is a cult survivor and a former editor for Wikipedia. Vaknin believes that Wikipedia is a cult.

Malignant narcissism is a common form of secondary psychophathy. Secondary psychopathy can be understood as a persistent form of posttraumatic stress disorder that occurs in individuals who carry some alleles associated with psychopathy. Most people carry some alleles associated with malignant narcissism and child abuse is very common. So, it is not surprising that malignant narcissism is also common. According to Vaknin, cults are run by psychopaths. If Vaknin’s claims are true and if a psychopathic individual happens to become a Wikiversity custodian then Wikiversity is also likely to become a cult. It is only a matter of time before a psychopathic individual gains custodian privileges. Since psychopathy is such a common disorder, this may happen sooner rather than later.

Vaknin has written a number of essays critical of Wikipedia. His fifth essay was titled “The Six Sins of the Wikipedia”. It appeared in the July 2, 2006 issue of the American Chronicle.
