Ship form[edit | edit source]
Principal parameters to describe a ship[edit | edit source]
The main dimensions of a ship are:
LBP = Length between perpendiculars LOA = Length overall LWL = Length at water line B = Breadth D = Height T = Draught (some use "d") F = Free board
Some other used characteristics to describe a ship are:
v = speed DWT = dead weight Δ = total mass of the ship with cargo
Buoyancy[edit | edit source]
The total weight of the ship:
The absolute value of the water pressure:
Fz = Archimedes force
