Chords are formed from notes on a scale. The first third and fifth tones in the scale is typical of a chord. For example the "C" Major chord is dirived from the "C" Major scale ( i.e. C, E, G) Where "C" is the root and "E" is the third and "G" is the fifth tones of the scale.
