Abstract
Abstract How can we approach generations Z and Alfa and what do we know about them? It is about time to fully include in our educational activities the new generations and find a path to get some of the more involved in editing and being ambassadors for Wikimedia projects. Generation Z became our students and our colleagues. We might have generation Alfa persons at home or meet them at school workshops. As educators, how much do we understand their world view and needs? Are we able to adapt our programs? This presentation will describe an experience in Wikimedia Czech Republic (WMCZ) and include a study/analysis on generation Alfa profiles conducted by the Association of Non-formal Education in the Czech Republic (CZ) and Youthwatch (in Slovakia) to open a discussion. We will also detail the experience of creating and managing youth support structures at regional and national levels. Young individuals might be playing a key role in the future leadership of Wikimedia. But often they feel very much alone in their local Wikimedia community, powerless or not recognized. A platform for them to meet (online and offline) peers from other countries is powerful on its own. A next step would be to give them more space and power to organize themselves, grow as leaders and establish governing and deliberating processes on their own.
