Abstract

Abstract During 2024, the Working Group on Climate Justice and Wikimedia projects did the Digital Green Skills course, followed by a set of internships at Wikimedia affiliates. This activity is particularly relevant for engaging with new audiences, but also for developing skills among community members. Most of us have different education audiences that are reaching out to Wikimedia affiliates in search of collaborating on the specific topics around the "triple planetary crisis" (climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss). Therefore, we proposed to map out the status of initiatives such as this one and gain a better understanding of the landscape. In this session, we will 1) map the current initiatives and experiences that are using climate change, environmental issues or sustainability topics for running educational activities on Wikimedia, 2) share collaboration strategies and synergies between "education for climate action" and Wikimedia projects and 3) evaluate the impact of these initiatives in the ground for creating or strengthening communities and reaching new audiences (particularly, youth audiences). Following the session, we aim to build a few case studies and potentially a framework for building more impact on the topic.
