Abstract



Abstract In 2024, Wikimedia Brazil conducted a survey to assess the use and needs of Research Groups utilizing Wiki Education tools within Lusophone Wikiversity. In Brazil alone, there are over 42,000 research groups registered with the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. The survey revealed that most study groups in the country lack a platform for discussions that foster connectivism, as well as a framework for promoting free knowledge and a more collaborative and transparent scientific approach. Within this context, Wikiversity emerges as a promising solution, provided it enhances its structural capabilities. Design solutions were implemented through the development of the "Wikiversity Research Group Generator," a tool intended to assist researchers in creating research group pages on Wikiversity. This aims to maintain structured data in Wikidata associated with these groups by simply entering information into a form available on the Wikiversity page. The integration with Wikidata facilitates connections between different groups and allows the Research Group Profiler to operate as a scalable project. Various on-wiki innovation products were utilized in developing the Research Group Generator to ensure consistent appearance and behavior of visual elements, thereby creating accessible technological products that align with the visual identity of Wikimedia projects. One notable benefit is the transformation of Wikimedia's socio-technical resources, particularly the synergy between Wikiversity and Wikidata. This integration fosters a broad social impact on research groups, enhances their interconnectedness, and provides valuable returns to society. The creation of this page generator enhances the platform's usability, contributing to partnerships allied with free knowledge.
