Rainwater harvesting[edit]

Thank you for your recent efforts on Rainwater harvesting, both for the quality of content and your willingness to organize the resource effectively. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 13:55, 26 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you Dave! I actually wanted to ask, is there a way to suggest categories? I have hundreds of pages of content to contribute over the next several months, and there are a few I can think of that would make sense to have as categories: Sanitation, Water, Rainwater harvesting, and Food Security & Nutrition to name a few. Thanks for your help. --Winona (discusscontribs) 23:53, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

Not only can you suggest categories, you can create them. Just add the category at the bottom of a page, and if it shows up as a red link, create that page, and if possible add a supporting (parent) category to the category. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 01:04, 2 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Dave! I managed to get the categories going. Two more questions: do you think with all of our themed content that we could create a Portal for some topics? For instance, a Portal:Water, Portal:Sanitation, and a Portal:Food Security & Nutrition would be great starts.
Also, to continue receiving funds to upload content, we were trying to understand some basic Wikiversity stats. For instance, how many page views or unique visitors does Wikiversity get each month or year? And how would we keep track of the page view/visits of our uploaded pages? Thanks very much for your help! --Winona (discusscontribs) 02:27, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
You're welcome to create portals if you wish. But I would consider a course / learning project approach first. In many cases, those take the place of portals here. We don't see edits on portals very often, and only a few portals make it into the top 1000 page destinations on a regular basis.
Whichever way you go, I would recommend focusing on Sustainability as the overall theme for this content, and build a portal or course around that. See Sustainability as a place to start / revise, etc. Creating three separate areas may dilute the audience too much. Redirecting and cross-linking may be more effective.
See Wikiversity:Statistics for more information on popular titles and Wikiversity statistics in general. For statistics on individual pages, select View history, and then Readers on the individual pages.
Regarding funding to upload content, be sure to read the wmf:Terms of Use carefully and verify that you meet the requirements for paid contributions. Also, be careful to not promote any particular supplier or vendor in your page content (no solicitation). -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 03:42, 8 July 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the tips and links, Dave. I have read through some of them, and no, we are not getting paid directly for contributions to Wikiversity, but paid to upload some of the expert material from our partners to upload to our own wiki, Akvopedia.org. The material itself is not costing, but rather the extra help to upload it. We are all nonprofits, NGOs, or foundations, so we have only the intention to have the highest quality information that is useful to our users. There is no interest to promote or present any sort of bias... that would not be advantageous to anyone involved. But good to know the guidelines just the same. Any information we acquire from either partners or expert PDFs, is always open to revision, editing, updating. Our partners know that from the beginning. We are just doing a wiki to wiki transfer! And are excited to contribute to your large community here. --Winona (discusscontribs) 04:46, 11 July 2015 (UTC)

New Water Portal[edit]

Hi Dave, just wanted to let you know I have decided to create a Portal:Water for now. It might be too narrow a topic for a portal, but we can always integrate it into a larger topic later. But for now, this is the best way I could think of to include a bunch more pages I have to upload from Akvopedia.org, and keep them organized. --Winona (discusscontribs) 06:13, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
