You do not need to be an educator to edit. You only need to be bold to contribute and to experiment with the sandbox or your userpage. See you around Wikiversity! --Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 22:52, 2 August 2022 (UTC)
I wouldn't put too much effort into portal development. Portals don't appear in regular searches. They are intended to be used to organize users rather than content. We don't have many topical areas that have enough users that they need to coordinate their efforts. It's probably better to spend time improving main space resources. See Wikiversity:Statistics for the resources that draw the most interest. -- Dave Braunschweig (discuss • contribs) 00:49, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
- Alright. Thank you for the advice and information. My intention is/was to replicate a look similar to the tabbed portals and to avoid duplication with the School content since the portal page was already created. I want to preserve the history of the page also. SotanScholar (discuss • contribs) 14:23, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
The Topic namespace was discontinued in 2016. We don't use it anymore. Like Portals, topics weren't included in general searches and were only used to organize users. The idea of schools, divisions, and departments is great with an organization so large that you need to organize the people contributing. Wikiversity hasn't had that "problem" for more than a decade.
When I review recent Wikiversity:Statistics, I see only 7 schools and 23 portals in the top 1000 pages viewed. While I appreciate your effort in creating structure, please know that the structure will only have impact if you also build content (courses, lessons, etc.) to support that structure.
You seem to be skilled in creating content and have a vision for what you want to do at / with Wikiversity. I hope that adding courses and lessons is included in that vision. Let me know how I can help.
- Thank you. I do have a larger plan yes to include a great deal of content. There is a lot of information regarding the use of namespaces so it was confusing but I went along with it and can always move it over later. Going forward I'll keep in mind the lack of need for the use of them. When I start working directly on the Course and Lesson content I may need to revisit the structural processes a little more closely. I believe I most likely will be reaching out for more direct help and guidance at that point. Thanks again! SotanScholar (discuss • contribs) 21:08, 5 August 2022 (UTC)
