HERDSA 2011 abstract[edit]

FYI - I'm working on the expression of interest here: User:Jtneill/Presentations/Open academia: Principles and practices - was due yesterday, but hopefully they'll accept Monday morning. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 10:11, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for starting this JT. I've started contributing. Leighblackall 22:08, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
Great, thanks for your efforts - an excellent boost. FYI, I redrafted and submitted this version just now. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 22:57, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

- Ottava Rima (talk) 00:51, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

Hi Ottava, was there a message in this? I'm missing it.. Leighblackall 00:58, 23 November 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, I assume you saw this. Ottava Rima (talk) 02:07, 23 November 2010 (UTC)

There is no staying. SB Johnny, an inactive admin, only appears to cause problems. Half the people voting to remove me have no activity on Wikiversity nor any solid proof of caring about the project. Comments like Jtneill's have no proof and do not show any violation of policy, nor do any of the matters have an egregious enough or recent enough pertinence to even bother with the matter. Hell, I was never given a chance to respond before voting to desysop began. The people there want the only active sysop to be removed. They don't put in the effort needed to maintain the place. They don't care. All I can do is leave and start somewhere that such people cannot taint and destroy, as it seems like their only purpose is to do such. KCA presentation[edit]

Some edits: Talk:University of Canberra/Open education and research at the University of Canberra -- Jtneill - Talk - c 03:32, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Could you followup with John about more info for presenters? -- Jtneill - Talk - c 03:35, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey James, I met with Robert today. He wasn't really able to answer many specific questions about the talk slot.. but it is an abstract for a paper, and we present the paper at the KCA. Guess we learn the presentation format sooner to the date. But a paper is pretty standard hey? I think we have enough content at hand to produce a pretty good one that doubles as the vision submission for UC. Leighblackall 09:52, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Love the abstract - great stuff - trivial editing by me - I think you should be first author and I've reverted to your original title too. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 00:48, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Some notes from our meeting with Laurie Open education and research at the University of Canberra. I reckon we expand this as the presentation page (this is the title?) - focused into say 5 min parts - copy over what you think is key stuff from the UC open vision or just point to it. Can you add the submitted abstract? And I guess we do a slidedeck? I have those open academic slides - but with case studies etc. could be more conventional slides or web-based. We could share this part (do some case studies each) - and then you explain the UC approach(es) and problems/issues/questions. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 13:37, 27 October 2010 (UTC)

Agreed! Will do. Thanks for this James. My eyes are too big for my head. Leighblackall 09:35, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

commons:File:Talking about the set up for ucip.ogv[edit]

Downloaded the vid from youtube as avi (couldn't see mp4). Couldn't download from ustream. Converted this time with Miro. It was easy, but it put an annoying watermark in the top left (yuck) - so back to SuperC in future. Noted also that it came out as .ogv. Created a ucip playlist in my youtube account [1], but it doesn't work unless I'm logged in... How do we make a ucip video "channel"? Best would be a playlist which could be collaboratively curated... Oh, and can you fix the permission info on this one too. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 13:43, 4 June 2010 (UTC)

PDR comments[edit]

Hope it's not too late?? I've added general comments to the talk page. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 00:48, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Apparently this may get deleted due to lack of proof of permission to post - could indicate permission by editing the page? -- Jtneill - Talk - c 13:47, 4 September 2010 (UTC)

Sorry I missed tis message James.. and I see its deleted already! What now? Leighblackall 01:47, 6 September 2010 (UTC)
Ah, we'll just need to ask an admin for undelete. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 00:48, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

Wikiversity Signpost[edit]

I'm trying to start up a Wikiversity equivalent of the Wikipedia Signpost. Someone suggested that I ask you if you have any ideas or if you would like to write an article yourself. Thanks, Rock drum (talkcontribs) 11:47, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Hi Rockdrum. Good idea.. if I were to write something, I would first post it to my blog under this tag: Wikiversity. I'd suggest you subscribe to that feed, and you'd be welcome to copy anything I post there in future. Knowing that there's a WV Signpost project running.. I'd likely post a lot more. :) Leighblackall 03:30, 25 August 2010 (UTC)

commons:File:Welcome to UCIP.ogg[edit]

Downloaded the vid from youtube as mp4 and then converted to ogg with SuperC (though I'm also meaning to try Miro), then uploaded to commons. Just need you to clarify permission/license - or you can edit the page yourself to confirm. Have added to UC-IP. I'm not sure we to do this a lot, but was curious to try. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 13:23, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

CC-BY-NC-SA image[edit]

FYI, File talk:Leigh Blackall online and characterised.jpg. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 18:54, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up JT. I dunno how you manage to keep abreast of all that is going on! I have deleted the image because its true, the copyright of the image is retained by MIT and incompatible. No worries, it was a gimmicky thing anyway. Wordle would be better, better check the rights on Wordle --Leighblackall 00:53, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Wordle's cool --Leighblackall 01:01, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Yes, its good to see that Wordle's are CC-by-A. I tend to just check my Watch List and if I have time, Recent Changes. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 01:14, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Open academia in practice[edit]

Created a dedicated page; the top part (description) is transcluded on Using social media for teaching and research. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 06:43, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Your blog[edit]

In case your wondering why nobody is leaving comments on your blog it is because the CAPCHA is broken. I tried to leave a comment, but the CAPCHA requires you to enter the letters seen in an image that is not being displayed. -- darklama  13:13, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

I wonder what's up - shows capcha OK for me. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 13:29, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Where the image should be I am seeing the alt attribute text "Visual verification". If I try to right click to goto the image location, the page shows a 404 Error. I have no idea what is up. -- darklama  14:01, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Just a copyedit note: it's "insight", not "incite" :-). --SB_Johnny talk 14:03, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Dark - sorry for the hassle, I dunno what's up with that.. it works on all networks I have tested so far (work, home, 3G). I hope you can find your way in there soon.. SB - thanks for the heads up, my spelling is an embarressment. --Leighblackall 06:28, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Turns out blogger requires cookies be enabled for the website's CAPCHA. -- darklama  09:00, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Up to you, but I'd probably go with a redirect in this case rather than delete. Or even better, I'd probably go with something like cattree on UCNISS to show the sub-categories and leave minimal info on Category:UCNISS. Here's a demo: Psychology, Category:Psychology. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 02:37, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

Restored. But my question is, should I create a portal page called Sport or Sport Studies, or go with a UCNISS page? I reckon a UCNISS page will encourage the others in more, but does it risk friction in the WV community? Perhaps start as a UCNISS page, and always use the category of Sport, and when there is enough content, create the Sport portal. --Leighblackall 06:18, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
Could do both - some people like using the Portal: namespace, but I tend to just go with say Sport studies which can highlight projects. UCNISS could highlight similar projects, but in future there may be other sport studies projects to be highlighted via sport studies. Note I also just created Category:Sport studies which you could add stuff to. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 10:37, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Research question[edit]

I usually ask emerging researchers in the early stages of theses to brainstorm a series of possible research questions for discussion. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 23:06, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

Good idea James. So far I have one emerging out of my last blog post: How does open education and research develop in an Australian university? Other posts relating to the PhD under the OpenPhD tag. --Leighblackall 02:54, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm looking forward to seeing this page develop Smiley.svg. Are you thinking PhD by publication? This might be possible. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 07:53, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi there JT.. firstly, could we put new threads at the top of the page, rather than the bottom.. I know its not standard.. maybe I'll come around.. not so far :)
PhD.. ! well, the first step for me is to find out more about what a PhD is. So far, all I know about it is it has been a long and painful process for almost everyone I know, and that it more or less sucked the life out of them! I don't want that. Another thing I know is that it is a gateway to better employment, a sad truth I suppose. I also expect it to lift my methods disciplin and understanding of research.. I have an idea to diarise work done here at UC and see if I can come up with a model for developing organisational staff abilities with contemporary internet.. something like that anyway. Looking for synergy with what I'm doing this year.. --Leighblackall 02:26, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
My PhD was rather fun and laid back. It all depends if you fit in and if you honestly belong in a graduate program. The sad thing is that a lot of people don't but don't realize it. Ottava Rima (talk) 23:01, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

I follow your "PhD-quest" as well :) I am just suprised, that you guys on the other side start with the PhD so (at least for me) late. Anyway, I wish you a good luck with it (, but frankly, looking to your blog and other achievements, I don't think you will need it Smiley.svg). --Gbaor 09:06, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

İnvite to History of Ottoman Empire Course[edit]

Hi! If you want to be student on History of the Ottoman Empire course, you can learn History of Ottoman Empire. Also you can be assistant student and professional student about History of Ottoman Empire. You can ask any questions, doing homeworks and making quiz about History of Ottoman Empire. Good works... --Bermanya 19:19, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
