Deletions[edit source]

Thank you for your recent Wikiversity:Maintenance efforts. Please note:

  • We often use {{Category redirect}} rather than deleting common categories that exist with a different spelling or casing.
  • We often redirect main pages to appropriate subpages rather than deleting them.
  • We generally don't blank pages when adding {{Delete}} unless the page content itself is a violation (harassment, solicitation, etc.). Blanking it just makes it harder for others to review the request and may make it necessary to revert your edits in order to properly delete the resource.
  • Pages with {{Proposed deletion}} generally wait for the proposal to expire.

Let me know if you have any questions. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 16:36, 21 March 2020 (UTC)

@Dave Braunschweig:
(1) and (2): Got it.
(3): I don't know why I've been doing that. I'll try to stop.
(4): I understand. Some prods that I came across qualified as speedy, so I changed them. Is it fine to do this? guywan (talkcontribs) 18:59, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
For proposed deletions, it depends. Different editors take different approaches. Some will tag them with {{prod}}. Some will change them to redirects, some move them to Draft: space, and lately I've been changing them to {{Advise}}. Occasionally, moving them to User: space is also appropriate. There's less outright WV:SPEEDY, except for test posts, vandalism, and similar.
As far as I know, every other Wikimedia project focuses on content. Wikiversity tries to consider the contributor as well as the content. Bad content can still be a good learning experience for the contributor. We just don't keep it in main space. It might be Draft:, User:, or a subpage somewhere. I don't think there are good, clean rules, because learning tends to be unique, both to the contributor and the perspective of those trying to organize content for others. -- Dave Braunschweig (discusscontribs) 00:32, 22 March 2020 (UTC)
