Hello Sir, my name is Cesar, in october i'm starting a course at the Royal College of Art London. Being a student myself in 'MA design interactions' College of Art London I would like to start 'teaching' simultaneously on wikiversity. I just got into the mailing list, but after searching for a while i didn't find where to start as a potential teacher. No art, fine art, new media art exist as department, and i would like to start it (new media arts). Can you please help me figure out how to start ? Maybe it would be great on the start page to have somewhere clearly a link to "create a department, become a teacher of the wikiverisity". Or maybe you know someone experienced enough to become a "teacher for wikiveristy new teachers". Cesar Harada. Can you please contact me through contact@cesarharada.com Many thanks Cesarharada 17:07, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Dear César Minoru Harada,

Thank for your interest in Wikiversity.

Your Servant cannot but notice from your Website that your home is in Paris. If it would be easier for you to get started on the French Wikiversity , you could go to the URL:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Userlogin

and register there.

The Page:

http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikip%C3%A9dia:Accueil_des_nouveaux_arrivants

would help you to start the New Pages you wish to start.

In similar fashion, if it would be easier for you to get started on the Spanish Wikiversity , you could go to the URL:

http://es.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Especial:Userlogin&returnto=Portada

and register there.

Then, the Page:

http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Bienvenidos

might lead you to information on starting the New Pages you wish to start.

If, instead, you do wish to get started on the English Wikiversity, Your Servant believes you may profit from visiting Help: Contents: Getting Started; but you would also do well to visit the many Media Arts pages as well.

Your Servant will continue his reply as soon as possible.

Best regards,

On June 13, 2007, Dionysios replied:

Dear César Minoru Harada,

It is good to hear from you again.

Please accept my apologies; Your Servant was using a Public Computer when he began his reply; and he ran out of time.

Your Servant was beginning the subject of the many Media Arts pages on the English Wikiversity.

The first step with any of the Wikiversities would be to register.

Your Servant is not particularly conversant with Wikiversities other than the English; so he will discus the Media Arts area of the English Wikiversity.

You will want to explore the School of Art and Design, part of the Faculty of the Humanities and the Art and Design Portal.

The Division of Fine Arts of the School of Art and Design provides a Fine Arts Portal which you will find useful.

And, you will also want to explore the Media Portal.

Then, again, your work may relate to the School of Architecture.

None of this, however, really directly answers the question of how to start Your Department.

That Question is specifically answered in the Fine Arts Portal under the heading

Basic information for new instructors[edit]

Creating new subdivisions and departments[edit]
The Subdivisions and Departments of Fine Arts exist on pages in the "Topic:" namespaces. Start the names of pages for departments and subdivisions with the "Topic:" prefix; department and subdivision pages reside in the Topic: namespace. Departments and subdivisions link to learning materials and learning projects. Subdivisions serve to organize several related departments. For more information on subdivisions and departments look at the Naming Conventions.

Dionysios (Continued.)[edit]

What then needs to be decided is where to put your first Page.

We have located Art and Fine Art and Architecture for you.

It seems as though you may need to name your first Page New Media Arts.

If so you may click on New Media Arts and you will be off and running.

It would be great for a Start Page to make the process more clear, to have Links which Create Departments and Establish Teachers, and indeed Your Servant does know of some experienced Wikiversitans who may of assistance as Teachers of New Teachers.

It is up to all of us to make things more clear and create the right Links. You will often find the experienced Wikiversitans who are Teachers of Teachers writing good answers in the Colloquium.

If Your Servant has been of assistance or can be of further assistance please let him know.

Best regards,

Thank very much for ordering the page, it looks great now! Maybe we can link our school from School of Art and Design, and also from the Fine Arts Portal and also Media Portal.

My pleasure, Your Servant is happy to be of service, if he has been of service. But, if at any time it should seem as though Your Servant is singlemindedly headed off in some other direction than the School is going, please do not hesitate to revert his efforts to a prior version. Your Servant in not offended by reversions.
It seems as though those Links are made. Your Servant will check to see what might be missing and will make more Links where he finds a need.

When I talked around me about this project, people are very interested but most of them see themselves mostly as user, they can hardly imagine themselves as students or teachers, this due to the popularity and the image of Wikipedia ... I have to look how other departments articulate their architectures, classes, brieves, discussions ... For me teaching cannot be just on-line tutorials, teaching is discussion ....))))

I have to look closer the experienced Wikiversitans who are Teachers of Teachers writing good answers in the Colloquium.

On Wikiversity the distinction between teacher and student is very blurred. A User is a Participant; and in Your Servant's humble opinion, experienced Users should have no trouble properly imagining themselves as simultaneously students and teachers, this partially in fact due to the very popularity and image of Wikipedia
The various Departments articulate their architectures, classes, and Discussions each in their own ways. Truly Teaching could not be only online; and much Learning can result from discussion.
A Question: What are "Brieves"?
Your Servant did lead you to look for the Teachers of Teachers in the Colloquium. Also, please note that there are other ways of finding these wise Wikiversitans who serve as the best guides to the Wikiversity.

Exchange of Messages re: Sustainability (2007-04-28 to 2007-05-01)[edit]

CQ/THD[edit]

Hello, Dionysios. Thanks for signing up at the School of Agriculture and linking to it. I see you have an interest in Ecological Sustainability and live in Kankakee. I live a bit further south near Mount Vernon. I just started the Ecovillage Institute and would like to move things forward a bit.

I'm not quite clear on what you're planning to do with the AGS School but it's on my watch list. I'm wondering if you have a farm and what your thoughts are for developing Ag and sustainability topics and learning resources. Have a look at my "real life" project at User:CQ/THD and tell me what you think, when you get time. Thanks. CQ 19:46, 28 April 2007 (UTC)

Dionysios[edit]

Greetings CQ/THD!

It is Your Servant's pleasure to be part of the School of Agriculture and to link the School of Advanced General Studies (AGS) to Ag.

Your Servant took an overdue step in moving AGS toward Ecological Sustainability as a result of his recent contact with Steve Waller during Waller's Recent Sustainability Related Visit to Kankakee Community College, Kankakee, Illinois and to Your Servant's encouraging Waller to participate in Wikiversity and more particularly in Wikiversity's work in Renewable Energy Systems.

Neither is Your Servant quite clear on where AGS might be headed. Your Servant hopes that as a major Wikiversity School, AGS will soon attract sufficient Participation that it will Develop in ways as yet undreamed of by its Founder. Let It be sufficient that AGS go as the Spirit leads.

Your Servant is, indeed, a Kankakeean. He is also a Participant in Wikitravel; and he encourages you to be the contributor of the new Mount Vernon[1] page to Wikitravel.

Your Servant looks forward to be a part of the Ecovillage Institute helping with its progress.

The Family Farm left my family, or, more accurately, my family left the family farm, in the 1940's. Your Servant did, however, grow up on one (1) acre of land. He now has one (1) undersized City Lot.

Your Servant will post his thoughts for developing Ag and sustainability materials as he has them. He has been to the User:CQ/THD and is preparing feedback.

May all your Wiki Endeavors bear fruit.

Exchange of Messages re: Unintended Creation of Pages (2007-02-23)[edit]

Mystictim[edit]

Hi Dionysios, good to see that you're interested in Continental philosophy. Things have been a bit quiet in that department for some time. I've been meaning to find some good introductory materials on the net and build some lessons around them. If you've got any ideas let me know. I'm curious as to why you duplicated the Philosophy message board with the page "Philosophy Department Message Board". Generally this isn't a good idea because it courses confusion about which page to edit and loses the edit history of the page. I'd like to suggest that unless there is some specific reason you need this duplicate page, that you ask for this duplicate page to be deleted by adding the template {{Delete|unwanted duplication of Philosophy message board page ~~~~}} to the duplicate page. Any way drop me a line on my talk page about your thoughts on the Department of Continental Philosophy. Mystictim 16:39, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Greetings Mystictim!

Your Servant didn't mean to duplicate the Message Board; but he didn't see any other way to accomplish what he was attempting to do. He could not find the original link to the Philosophy message board and therefore duplicated it.

He will properly link it and ask for deletion of the duplicate.

Thank you for your assistance.

Mystictim[edit]

Hi Dionysios, thanks for the reply. It can be difficult finding pages on a wiki especially if you don't know its name. Be careful using the search box to click on Search rather than Go. Unfortunately you missed my talk page at User talk:Mystictim and ended up creating a new page at "UserTalk:Mystictim | UserTalk:Mystictim" wiki software is sensitive to both spaces and capitalisation. The easiest way to get to someone's talk page is to click on the User name link and then click on the discussion tab at the top of the page. You could have a look at editing help for a quick refresher. Mystictim 18:51, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
