"The Turkish Lover" is a about a girl named Esmeralda Santiago who lived with her single mother in 11 siblings in Puerto Rico and decides to leave with her turkish lover Ulvi Dogan. By her running away is a disrespect to her family and against her religion. People will criticizes her because she is a very intellengent girl who graduated from harvard. Dogan controls Santiago's every moment she then suddenly discovers that romantic and passion can become a prison. She realizes that picking her lover over her family was a mistake they make up and break up as Santiago devotes herself to Dogan's graduate studies and career and seperate after seven years.
