- Fisher, Antwone Q., and Mim E. Rivas. Finding Fish. New york: HarperTorch, 2002. Print.
This book is about a young boy named Antwone Fisher who survives the suffering of abandonment and physical abuse he receive from his foster parent, Mizz Pickett. When he left the foster home he became homeless and survives on the street with Butch. After that he enlists in the navy and there he found a family and himself along the way.
"This was when I change, when I had to divert and channel my powers of imagination to my defense against the increasing difficulties surrounding me. My daydreams were no longer wonderful... they were just distractions that gave me a few minutes of rest. So I stopped believing in them... I stopped seeing the Picketts as alien monsters and started to see them as mean people. "(77).
"That was the poster that lured me inside. It directed me to the attention of two recruiting officers who may have assumed correctly from my disheveled, frozen appearance that I was homeless; who also assumed by my young looks that I wasn’t telling the truth about being eighteen"(281).
