True Self/Daily Practice Checklist: Unmasking the True Self

From Wikiversity
Explore the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves.

Here’s a structured “Unmasking the True Self” daily practice checklist, inspired and distilled from the True Self course on Wikiversity.[1] It’s designed to guide you step-by-step toward seeing, challenging, and embodying your authentic narrative.

Morning Intention

[edit | edit source]
  • Reflect on who you believe yourself to be today: What narrative is guiding your actions?
  • Choose one focus for the day:
    • Quieting the mind
    • Noticing your internal narrative
    • Assessing a limiting belief
    • Starting to rewrite part of your story

Daytime Prompts & Practices

[edit | edit source]

1. Quieting the Mind

Create space for awareness:

  • Pause for mindful breathing or brief meditation.
  • Notice thoughts and gently set aside distractions.

2. Identify “I Am…” Statements

  • Listen to self-talk phrases like “I am…” (e.g., “I am not creative”).
  • Note one such statement and reflect: Where did it come from? Is it true?

3. Survey Your Limiting Beliefs

  • Choose a self-limiting belief that surfaced.
  • Ask: “Does this help me grow—or hold me back?”

4. Subjective Awareness

  • Check in: What are you feeling—physically, emotionally, mentally?
  • “Name it to tame it”—awareness is clarity and connection.

5. Collect Narrative Fragments

  • Capture a recurring theme in your self-story (e.g., “I’m always behind,” “I’m not good enough”).
  • Write it down.

6. Assess & Challenge the Narrative

  • Examine the evidence for and against the narrative fragment.
  • Is this still valid—does it reflect your true self?

7. Begin Rewriting

  • Create a more accurate and nourishing version of the narrative.
  • Example: “I’m learning—and I’m enough.”

8. Step Into the New Narrative

  • Throughout your day, act in ways that align with your reframed identity.
  • Let the new narrative guide how you show up.

Evening Reflection

[edit | edit source]
  • What narrative did you notice (true or false)?
  • How well did you notice or challenge it?
  • Did you begin rewriting your story thoughtfully?
  • How did embodying any new narrative feel?
