RSS feed of recent articles[edit source]
Hi. I've just been tinkering with developing a tool that produces RSS feeds of articles in a wiki category, and I'm trying to test it out with wijourmed pages. Does this sound like a useful sort of a thing for you? For example, this feed is the ten most recent articles in Category:Articles included in Wikiversity Journal of Medicine in 2015. — Sam Wilson ( Talk • Contribs ) … 16:45, 26 June 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Sam! I hope you have safe travels. I just arrived back home less than 30 minutes ago. Sure, this seems like an interesting thing. Would it work to keep such a list at a Wikipedia page too? - Cool. :) I've added a link to the RSS feed in the right sidebar template. Feel free to remove or move if you dislike. I've created the {{Category news feed}} template (which will also be used for Wikiversity blogs etc.). I'm not sure about how to include news feeds into the actual wikiproject page though; maybe just a link to the RSS would do? And yep, I'm back home today, at long last! The RSS feed link currently brings me to a page saying "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.", followed by code which is confusing to me (and probably most readers). I hope it can be made more understandable. - Good point, could be confusing. Web feeds are meant to be read by feed readers (aka w:News aggregator), such as Outlook or Thunderbird (or a million others), rather than directly. I'm not sure how to make things clearer; maybe just a link to a help page? — Sam Wilson ( Talk • Contribs ) … 02:31, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
- I noticed now that the feed worked in Explorer, but not in Chrome (which I usually use). I think it works as it is, since we can assume that those readers who are interested in RSS feeds know how they work. Thanks for your help!
