This s not currently a mainstream of research by any of the leading laboratories no doubt because of the inherent difficulties in proving the hypothesis in living, late onset, human PD cases. Nevertheless it fits in well with the emerging 'multiple hit' hypothesis for the disease. LPS is a widely occurring bacterium which is usually left untreated in pregnancy on the theory that what doesn't kill the foetus strengthens it(?). If added proof were forthcoming of a link between pre-natal LPS infection and late onset PD it would be a significant development and provide a new therapeutic target for the elimination of the disease. 80.189.122.238
