Let $V$ be a finite-dimensional real vector space, and let $⟨-,-⟩$ denote a symmetric bilinear form on $V$. Show that the Gram matrix of this bilinear form with respect to a suitable basis is a diagonal matrix, whose diagonal entries are $1,-1$, or $0$.
