Set/Discrete metric/Example

For an arbitrary set ${}M$, we can define a metric via

${}d(x,y):={\begin{cases}0,\,&{\text{ if }}x=y\,,\\1,\,&{\text{ if }}x\neq y\,.\end{cases}}\,\,$

This is called the discrete metric.
