Let ${}H$ be an (additive) subgroup of the real numbers ${}\mathbb {R}$. Show that either ${}H={\mathbb {Z} }a$ with an uniquely determined nonnegative real number ${}a$, or ${}H$ is dense in ${}\mathbb {R}$.
