Identity

Let ${}M$ denote a set. The mapping

$M\longrightarrow M,x\longmapsto x,$

that sends every element ${}x\in M$ to itself, is called the identical mapping, or the identity on ${}M$. It is denote by ${}\operatorname {Id}$ or ${}\operatorname {Id} _{M}$.
