History of immunity

Immunity means defence mechanism of our body. The study of immunity is called immunology. Louis pasteur was known as father of immunology even though Edward Jenner's pioneer introduction to prevent small pox. immune word came from latin which means resistance, which was used for people who were exempted from either paying tax or joining army.

IMMUNITY actually means resistance against foreign bodies or disease causing organisms.

HISTORY[edit | edit source]

1.430 BC THUCYDIDES 2.15TH Century -variology which found that if a person survived one disease then resistance to that particular disease for life time. 3.18th century-EDWARD JENNER- milk maid did not got chicken pox who took care cow which had cow pox. (1798 Jenner inoculated fluid from cowpox pustule into a 8 yo boy which made the boy resistant against smallpox) 4.Louis pasteur-he found about anthrax which die at 40 degree and is virulent at 37 degree Celsius. (Pasteur coined the term 'Vaccine') 5. Elie Metchinkoff (1883)- phagocyte cells in serum of starfish. 6.Alexandra Fleming- antibiotic produced by living organisms and given to living organisms. 7.C.Richet - prophylaxis- prevention from spreading diseases. 8.FERNADO WAIDAL- invented waidal test for typhoid. 9. LINDERMANN- found about interferons-surface of virus infected cells. 10. KARL LANSTEIN AND WEINER- A,B,O,AB Blood groups and discovered rh positive and negative. 11. RODNEY PORTER- in 1972 got Nobel prize for describing the chemical composition of immunoglobulin.
