Geometric Geodesy

From Wikiversity

Geometric Geodesy Is a branch of geodesy which deals with determining the geometry of the Earth using geometrical methods. How these coordinates, distances, angles and positions are measured and calculated on or around the Earth, quite accurately.

Key Topics:

[edit | edit source]
  • Triangulation & trilateration
  • Coordinate systems and datums
  • Global and local positioning systems (e.g., global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) / global positioning systems (GPS))
  • Baseline measurements and geodetic networks
  • Transformations and projections of maps

Applications:

[edit | edit source]
  • Mapping and charting
  • Navigation and surveying
  • Construction and all manner of infrastructure projects
  • Cadastral and boundary demarcation work
