English: Dark field photomicrograph of Treponema pallidum bacteria. Control slide of Nichol's strain of T. pallidum from a rabbit testicle, and stained by fluorescent antibody technique; magnification 54X. The rate of primary, and secondary syphilis in the U.S. declined by 89.2 percent from 1990 to 2000.
