Summary

Description
English: Sandstones - Ben Griam Beg. The dominant geology of Orkney, Caithness and the east of Sutherland is that of Old Red Sandstone. The sandstones were laid down in shallow water during the Devonian era c. 380 million years BP. This was an important time in the history of life, land was colonised by plants and animals while armoured fishes swam above the mud that was to become these rocks. How old were the pebbles washed down by rivers from long gone hills and are preserved here at the summit of Ben Griam Beg, now 590m above the sea?
