Summary

Description
English: "RDoC is a research framework for investigating mental disorders. It integrates many levels of information (from genomics and circuits to behavior and self-report) to explore basic dimensions of functioning that span the full range of human behavior from normal to abnormal.

This picture is a visual representation of the RDoC framework. A large grey arrow is placed in the center of the image space. The arrow is placed to appear as if it is extending outward from the back to the front of the image space. Placed at the flat, beginning end of the arrow is the outline of a pregnant woman. At the pointed end of the arrow are the words “Neurodevelopment.”

A green transparent bubble appears on top of the pointed end of the arrow such that it appears to be hovering over the arrow. Above the bubble is the word “Environment.”

Centered within the arrow and the green bubble is a grid-like structure representing the RDoC matrix. The horizontal rows of the grid list the Domains of the matrix from top to bottom beginning with Negative Valence, then Positive Valence, Cognitive Systems, Systems for Social Processes, Arousal/Modulatory Systems, and last, Sensorimotor Systems. The vertical columns of the matrix, which intersect each row are labeled “Units of Analysis.” Units of Analysis are listed in order from let to right beginning with Genes, then Molecules, Cells, Circuits, Physiology, Behavior, and last, Self-Report. The ends of the central column, labeled “Circuits,” extend and fold into short horizontal ribbons. Placed on the top ribbon-like extension are the words “Behavioral Dimensions,” spanning the columns Physiology, Behavior, and Self-Report. Placed on the bottom ribbon-like extension are the words “Neural Systems,” spanning the columns Genes, Molecules, and Cells.
