Inscrito na lista do Patrimônio Mundial pela Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação, a Ciência e a Cultura (Unesco), em 1991, e tombado pelo Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (Iphan) em 1993, o Parque Nacional da Serra da Capivara, além da riqueza ambiental, é um santuário histórico e cultural que abriga 400 sítios arqueológicos com pinturas e gravuras rupestres que datam de cerca de 43 mil anos. É um dos 63 parques nacionais do Brasil, com aproximadamente 129 mil hectares de proteção integral à natureza. Abrange os municípios piauienses de São Raimundo Nonato, Canto do Buriti, Coronel José Dias e São João do Piauí. Fica no semiárido nordestino, fronteira entre duas formações geológicas, com serras, vales e planície. Abriga fauna e flora específicas da caatinga. Foto: Janine Moraes/MinC |
