There are five public school buildings, representing an investmentof $250,000, and the usual complement of mercantile establishmentsincident to a town of its size. The people are almost all descendants of the old South, and thewhole population is of a high class, with no undesirable foreign elementand very few who do not boast a forward look toward better things ineducation and civic life. Dickens County This county, hi Northwest Texas, presents a broken surface, withundulating valleys, while in the northwestern portion is a section of theStaked Plain-. The county was created .August 21. 1876, and was organ-ized March 14, 18(<1, with Dickens as the county seat.
