Description
English: A diagram of the apparatus used by Geiger and Marsden in their famous gold foil experiment. This diagram is from a 1913 paper by Hans Geiger and Ernest Marsden, The Laws of Deflexion of a Particles through Large Angles.


A - rotating platform
B - metal cylinder
C - airtight joint
D - diaphragm (to create a narrow beam of particles).
F - metal foil
M - microscope
P - glass plate
R - radium
S - zinc sulfide screen
T - tube for pumping out air
