Astronomers can use telescopes to look at very distant galaxies[edit | edit source]

Astronomers can use telescopes to look at very distant galaxies. This is how they see what the universe looked like a long time ago. This is because the light from distant parts of the universe takes a very long time to reach us.

Astronomy[edit | edit source]

Astronomy is a natural science. It is the study of everything outside the atmosphere of Earth.

It studies celestial objects (such as stars, galaxies, planets, moons, asteroids, comets and nebulae) and processes (such as supernovae explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cosmic microwave background radiation). This includes the physical and chemical properties of these objects and processes.

Astronomical object[edit | edit source]

Astronomical object refers to something that astronomy studies. It may be any body or structure in the observable universe. This includes objects like nebulae, star clusters, galaxy clusters, galaxies, stars, protostars, planets, satellites, comets, asteroids. Objects on the Earth are not usually included, except recently landed meteorites.

Black hole[edit | edit source]

Black hole is the center of a galaxy where its attractive force is very strong that the light around it is pulled into it. So the central area is dark and called a black hole.

Black hole is a huge sky object[edit | edit source]

A black hole is a huge sky object. It is the center of a galaxy. It is called black hole because the light around it is absorbed by it and cannot escape, so we cannot see it.

Cosmology[edit | edit source]

Cosmology is the study of the structure and changes in the present universe.

Modern cosmology is dominated by the Big Bang Theory, which brings together observational astronomy and particle physics.

Invention of telescope[edit | edit source]

The invention of the telescope in the Netherlands, 1608, was a milestone in astronomy.

Natural satellite[edit | edit source]

A natural satellite in astronomy is a smaller body which moves around a larger body. The smaller body is held in orbit by gravitation. The term is used for moons which go around planets, and it is also used for small galaxies which orbit larger galaxies.

Radiation astronomy[edit | edit source]

English[edit | edit source]

Radiation astronomy is the astronomy that studies various radiations from the outer space, especially at night.

Supermassive black hole[edit | edit source]

A supermassive black hole is a black hole with a mass that is between 105 and 1010 the mass of the sun. Scientists are confident that almost all galaxies, including the Milky Way, have supermassive black holes at their centers.

Earth's radio signals may never reach certain spatial regions[edit | edit source]

Even if the universe always exists, the Earth's radio signals may never reach certain spatial regions, because space may expand faster than the speed of light.

Ideas to explain the universe[edit | edit source]

Many people in history had ideas to explain the universe. Most early models had the Earth at the centre of the Universe.
