[edit] Comments

  • There is a lot of distilled practical wisdom in Wikipedia's user name policy developed over a period of years. Our user name issues are likely to be almost identical, at least I cannot think of any major deviations from Wikipedia's environment and needs. By adopting this early we can avoid a few problems, it can always be tweaked in the wiki way when needed. Mirwin 12:34, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Those all looks to me like common sense so IMO it doesn't need to be written down as a policy. I'd like to keep our policies to a minimum if we really want people to actually read and follow them. -- sebmol ? 13:16, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Unfortunately, some heated discussion in Wikipedia were about names, if I remember right. A policy like this would more helpful than it would add to "instruction creep". Awolf002 00:19, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
  • Until I actually see the page, I can't say yes or no on it. --Rayc 05:21, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I am neutral really to this policy in general, but I think it is a bit premature here on Wikiversity. Other than some blatant vandals with obscene language in their names and impersonating well known users, I don't see this as a problem. Besides, with the unified login coming I don't see even that becoming a major issue as the naming conventions are going to be moved up to the foundation level as well. I would suggest holding off for just a little bit longer and see what happens over the next couple of months if this is needed. --Robert Horning 05:59, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree, this is something we don't need at the moment. --HappyCamper 11:46, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

) Looks like all the main points have been covered. A few more tweaks and it should be ready. Yorktown1776 15:46, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Names with non-Latin characters

I suggest that we allow all characters, but ask the users to transliterate their names in their signatures.--Hillgentleman|User talk 17:06, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Adopt as Guideline

I'm going to put {{Guideline}} on here now. Any objections? ..tic.tic.tic.. CQ 13:37, 2 September 2009 (UTC)

Except I still oppose this section: "Names with non-Latin characters". The Jade Knight (d'viser) 16:29, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
