[edit] Suggestion: Shift content to talk page

IMHO, this article should have much of its content shifted to the talk page. -- Jtneill - Talk 05:30, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] From Cormac.org Blog

(in response to [1])

Hi cormaggio, I wanted to post a response to your blog there but it stated some crash in progress and i clicked on the nearest link to here to post this:

I agree with the observation that there is a lot of waiting going on about creating stuff in wikiversity. Well, it is slightly better i think than 'lurking'. All these makes up 98+% of the traffic. The collaborative need you asked is there somewhere, in that Maslow Hierarchy - are you hungry or full? Usually that part of human nature is broken into via some leadership sweeping in. Some tools can also help but people need to see someone leading the way and then follow that.

Interesting observations - thanks! We do talk of people being hungry (or more usually thirsty) for knowledge - but I've never heard of being "full". :-) I'd say that people even simply browsing Wikiversity are likely to be hungry in that sense - so I don't know how you see this relating to the need for leadership. I agree that leadership is an essential part of a wiki (being bold, leading by example), but, of course, this is contingent upon individual traits and needs, as well as social structures. Also, leadership is not necessarily a positive force - we can lead by bad example, or stifle others' participation... Cormaggio talk 08:12, 7 October 2008 (UTC)
