[edit] "Import:" pseudo-namespace redirects

Hi guys,

I'm creating redirect pages for pages imported from wikibooks. These pagenames are of the form "Import:WIKIBOOKSPAGENAME". What I'm doing on the wb side is locking pages that have already been moved, and leaving a link to these redirect pages. This seemed a better idea than linking to the current page name, which might end up being changed multiple times as things get organised here. (So long as there's a stable redirect from wikibooks, that pagemoving shouldn't cause any cross-project trouble as long as people responsibly check for double-redirects and such).

BTW: Please don't delete pages that were the original destination for the imports. I'm not a sysop here and can't view the histories of deleted pages, so if there is a redlink for the destination page, I ain't gonna lock. --SBJohnny 21:19, 24 August 2006 (UTC)

BTW2: "SBJohnny" is a sockpuppet of SB_Johnny. This puppet will be used almost exclusively for creating these pages, so you can check the contribs for progress updates, etc. --SBJohnny 21:25, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
  • I have mostly been dealing with import from the meta-wiki. For those meta-wiki pages it is useful for me to be able to go back and see how they were linked together; page import leads to page name changes that break links. People at Wikiversity edit the copied pages. It is sometimes useful for me to be able go back and see the original pages in context at meta. I'm not sure that this is the case for Wikibooks pages, but why is there a rush to delete? For the next few months, some Wikiversity participants will be trying to find pages that they created at Wikibooks. If during the next few months there is a call for deleting the Wikiversity pages at Wikibooks, please let me know; I will argue that it can wait a few months. --JWSchmidt 13:28, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

You can only broadcast the RC feed on an IRC server you run locally. So RC goes on irc.wikimedia.org, but our sysadmins don't want to manage a chat network. So, all other channels are on Freenode. – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 18:18, 29 November 2008 (UTC)
