[edit] IP vandal
Please take a look at Special:Contributions/69.227.151.150 and take action as you see fit. – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 03:38, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
- Blocked. Thanks you for the heads up. --Remi 04:12, 23 November 2007 (UTC)
This is not a request, but FYI, see new page You can't deny vandals --mikeu 19:04, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- How cute. --HappyCamper 19:27, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
Please see edits by Special:Contributions/76.190.220.7. Might also want to have a look at Special:Contributions/65.25.105.176 and Special:Contributions/71.64.111.224.--mikeu 00:41, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for your watchfulness, Mike. I had a look at all of this. 76.190.220.7 was clearly out of line, but you cleared things up, so I think "no further action" at this time. The other contributions are more difficult. The page at US Society looks like students being "slightly silly" - we should probably revert back to Cormaggio's last edit. But it isn't really what I'd call vandalism. McCormack 13:03, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree about some of the edits being more silly than vandalism. But, there seemed to be a bit of a pattern of theses IPs making nonsense edits to some of the same pages. For instance, 65.25.105.176 has a history of disruptive edits that blank a lot of valid content and replace with nonsense. [1] Which was followed by this edit. Anyway, I'll probably tag one or more of the talk pages with a Category:User warning templates.--mikeu 13:55, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- I just checked Whois and all three of the above IP's are registered to Road Runner HoldCo LLC, Herndon VA. The date ranges of edits by the three anons do not overlap, but there are similarities in which pages were edited and the type of nonsense. --mikeu 14:19, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- I "checked" into it: seems to be the same terminal operating through all 3 IPs. No registered accounts are associated, so if vandalism continues a hard block wouldn't cause collateral damage. At least one has a long history of vandalism on en.Wikipedia as well. --SB_Johnny | talk 14:30, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
- I left a Please refrain from adding nonsense... on Jan. 1 which was followed by 9 more edits on Jan. 2 which were mostly vandalism. I just left a second warning. I hardly think it is worthwhile to let this continue much longer given the the large quantity of notifications and the attitude of this person. --mikeu 20:56, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Import Template:WebDesign/Exercise from Wikibooks

[edit] Uploading Files
Hi Guys,I am not sure where to post this for the quickest response. I am working on a project located at "http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/DFE2008_Dry_Cleaning_Detergent", being really new to wikipedia I didn't realize that I need to be an account holder for 4 days before I could upload files for use. I realize that wikimedia allows people to bypass the rule for urgent cases. My project is due at 9am UTC+4 on Wednesday, and I need to upload files urgently. Any help would be appreciated.

[edit] Username Change
I would like my username changed to Da Punk '95 for SUL. -- Punk Boi 8 03:47, 6 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, the user has email activated, so it would be nice if you can ask him first, if you both can come up with a compromise ?
- If not, then you are free to ask for usurpation at Wikiversity:Changing username (see the steps there for the other usurpation requests please), ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 07:44, 6 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] GNU/Linux
I'd like feedback or comments on whether and how appropriate it would be to start writing a series of howto pages (similar to those hosted on www.TLDP.org) as part of Wikiversity project Linux or perhaps a new project along the lines of a technical school, think practicals and exercises (how do I statically setup IP addresses in XYZ linux distribution).
Would such documents fit the mission of the Wikiversity?
Sean729 05:35, 31 July 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Sean, yes, I would think such pages would fit well on Wikiversity. Wikiversity is for educational materials and learning activities no matter what the subject (in theory). Check Category:Linux to see what already exits - plenty of room for new contributions. -- Jtneill - Talk - c 06:03, 31 July 2008 (UTC)

- Cool picture, but but the copyright issues around it are not quite OK (now), as Erkan noted it on the picture's talk page.--Gbaor 07:04, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
Done The image was deleted- Had emailed also the person from the website, then the picture was removed and later added again. The Image can always be restored again in teh future if permission by OTRS arrives. ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 18:07, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
[edit] IP user 82.243.133.6
This IP user is claiming to be a bot, if that's the case shouldn't this bot be logged-in, into the bot's account rather than editing while logged-out - what's the process for issues like this happening. Dark Mage 18:22, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Perhaps someone just forgot to log in ? bot operators are just humans :-)
- See edits on 5th July 2008 here: I assume it is the IP of a known bot from here. Let me ask around, ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 20:17, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- That's true, Bot operator's are just humans - but not all bot's are, some are automatic controlled by the MediaWiki System, or what ever system some bots use. Dark Mage 20:20, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Medawiki does not run any bots. The toolserver does. And the links are good, so this is no big deal; don't lose your sleep over it. Hillgentleman|Talk 09:03, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

- "Bot operators must: create a separate account for bot operation" (WV:BOT) Owners are also encouraged to program the bot to stop if it is logged out or if someone leaves a message on the bot's talk page. It is important to know who is operating the bot and how to contact them in case the bot begins making questionable edits. --mikeu talk 12:31, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- It's my static IP, so it's also my bot. Crochet.david 17:19, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Name change?
Does anyone else think this page would be better named "Requests for community attention"? --SB_Johnny talk 12:55, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

- Well I thought the Colloquium was among other things for airing of disputes that effect the community as a whole. If people feel that it is no longer appropriate to use the Colloquium for that than maybe we should start a new page. Maybe something like Wikiversity:Community Review. This page could still be renamed to Request community action, and later merged with Community Review if people feel the scopes/purposes overlap too much. --dark

- Well, the colloquium has historically been a place to bring fresh ideas, seek opinions and collaborators, discuss technical issues, etc. I (and at least a few others) would rather keep that page free of slugging matches, and reserve it for exploring possibilities as opposed to (sometimes heated) conflicts. --SB_Johnny talk 14:14, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

- I think that Request custodian action is more about requesting the use of tools, ie. reporting vandalism and such that might require deletion or blocking. I support the creation of a seperate Community Review page. There are a number of people who have told me that they avoid irc and colloqium because of the heated disputes and general atmosphere of conflict. --mikeu talk 15:17, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

- I have the same sentiment as Mikeu's first two sentences. Maybe we could create another page or divide up the colloquium into different areas. Emesee mobi 19:39, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

- That would actually be a good idea, though we should make it look different than our wikimedia counterpart sites - and try our best not to duplicate some of their ideas, what about doing something like on Wikibooks:Reading room which they have different sections for discussions, I agree though with the name change which Darklama suggested "Request community action" sounds better than "Requests for community attention" as it may turn out in the opposite direction.
