  1. Gemination of consonants following short vowels in front of a secondary diftong or long monoftong of contracted stems only.
  2. Gemination of consonants following short vowels in front of any diftong or long monoftong.
  3. The first component is shorter in secondary (~ late) geminates only.
  4. Secondary (~ late) geminates sound equal to original geminates.
  5. hs > hz in the weak grade.
  6. ki > tši after back vowels.
  7. h and G may appear in the end of words.
  8. n has been always vowelized even in the (verb) ending of the 1. person of singular.
  9. t > Ø after a long round vowel (in front of any vowel) in the weak grade.
  10. t > v v after a long round vowel (in front of any vowel) in the weak grade.
  11. ē > ie, ō > uo, ȫ > üö in the first syllable of a stem.
  12. ē̮ > ĭ̮e̮ (~ ė̮̆e) in the first syllable of a stem and ē̮ > ĭ̮e̮ (~ ė̮̆e), ē > ĭe, ō > ŭo, ȫ > ü̆ö (?) in the next syllables.
  13. e̮a > à, eä > iä (everywhere ?) except the first syllable of a stem.
  14. Slight lengthening of a short vowel in the first syllable of a multisyllable word, if the first syllable is open.

  1. Mutually related features may be grouped as 1-4, 9-10, 11-12.
  2. The 7. and 9. peculiarity of Eastern dialect may be Ingrian influence.

On the chart above we can not see a clear opposition of Eastern dialect to all the others, but let's look at the traditional classification next.
