Some things to do...
I don't think we have a formal process for this yet, but after going through the user list, I found some user names I think we'd rather not have there. Anyway, seeing as you have the necessary account flag for it, could you decide if the following 11 accounts should be renamed? (links to Special:Renameuser with the fields filled in to make it easier :D)

Thanks for the email template
The email template at "Template:Email" works great!!! Thanks. What kind of coding is that? Is that PHP?
Also, thanks for your user page. I borrowed the formatting from there and created Help:Color schemes 2. Robert Elliott 16:38, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
- The coding uses some special variables MediaWiki offers. It might be useful to have them documented here too. I'll do that if I can find the time. sebmol ? 19:16, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
User variables?
Are there user variables? I want about 10 variables for my lessons that I can define and change whenever I want to change them. One variable that I want is "Course3UnderConstructionToday" which is "true" for today but hopefully will be "false" tomorrow. Robert Elliott 13:57, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- We can use templates for that. You could create a Template:Course3UnderConstructionToday with the value 1 today and 0 tomorrow. Then, you can use it in expressions like etc. to evaluate them. This is fairly advanced technical stuff though. If you give me more details about your needs, I'd be happy to create something suitable. sebmol ? 15:17, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Mailing list for a course or lesson?
As an instructor, I want to set up a mailing list for all the active students taking my filmmaking courses. I want to be able to send out emails to all students when something new has happened. I want to be able to add students to my list and I want to be able to remove students from my list. Robert Elliott 14:05, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
- MediaWiki/Wikimedia don't offer this at the current time. I will think about it though and see if we can create something quickly. sebmol ? 15:18, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Post-Christmas return
Hey Seb, and a very happy New Year to you. :-) Thanks for creating that email template - good work! One more thing - J.Steinbock was enquiring about uploading Powerpoint (.ppt) files to Wikiversity, which I think would be an obvious addition. Do you have shell access to change this? Or do we need to bug a developer for all such requests? Cheers, and talk to you later! Cormaggio talk 13:16, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- We would have to ask a developer to do that. I'm not sure if this is customarily done though. sebmol ? 15:15, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Page Tracking by User?
Is there any way to track Wikiversity users who come to my pages? (User name and how long the user visited my page and where they went to from my page.) Robert Elliott 15:53, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, that's not possible at all. Because of the huge number of hits on Wikimedia's servers (caused primarily by Wikipedia), the developers don't even keep access statistics. In other words, we don't even know, how many people visit a specific page, much less who they are. sebmol ? 15:19, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Ip vandal
It appears that the IP vandal you blocked, which was attacking userpages, belongs to a school in Sunderland, United Kingdom. With the WHOIS, button. A yearly block may not be nesscery, and if so, enable account creation for legitimate users. Student Galaxy 16:01, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- If it is a school, it's their responsibility to ensure their students don't vandalize Wikipedia. sebmol ? 16:52, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
MediaWiki pages
Hey Sebmol, do you know what happened to all the MediaWiki pages? I meant to ask this before. It seems that a ton of them were deleted simultaneously at 23:14, 8 January 2007. What do we do about specific things that we want to change (like, for example, the button changes proposed by Robert Elliott on the Colloquium today)? Cheers, Cormaggio beep 19:09, 15 February 2007 (UTC)
- The messages were deleted because they were all duplicates to what MediaWiki already has as a default. We can still change messages if we want by just creating the appropriate pages in the MediaWiki: namespace. sebmol ? 07:38, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, thanks - I asked on mediawiki IRC channel and they told me the same. Thanks for changing the userpage button again [13] - but do you know of a way to change the associated talk page? MediaWiki:Nstab-user-talk didn't work.. Cormaggio beep 11:28, 16 February 2007 (UTC)
