new namespace
I suggested that Wikiversity have a "portal" namespace and Cormaggio suggested "be bold and set up the Portal namespace". I have no idea how to add a new namespace to a wiki. Do you know how the "School" namespace was set up? --JWSchmidt 13:14, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I do. I was just wondering if you could maybe provide an example where School: wouldn't fit. The only reason I'm asking is that it would be unfortunate if we were duplicating efforts. -- sebmol ? 13:17, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
I wrote a little about how I think portals would function for Wikiversity. I suspect that "schools" will also function like portals, but there are going to be Wikiversity portals that do not fit into a conventional list of schools. --JWSchmidt 13:18, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- That's what I meant. I was wondering if you could give an example of that. -- sebmol ? 13:19, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Check this out too: Wikiversity:Colloquium#The Grand Proposed Agenda of Getting Stuff Done. Maybe we can discuss there how we want to organize this project. -- sebmol ? 13:29, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Import deletions
Seb, I'm just thinking, instead of blank deleting all pages which have been improperly imported (eg School:Music), should we not be putting a placeholder text there to tell people what to do? Not everyone will check the Recent changes, or even the History.. Cormaggio 17:51, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- I can make a template for that purpose. No problem. Also, have you seen the site notice at the top of the page? -- sebmol ? 17:52, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yeah, that's a helpful notice - it's just not everyone will see it, and I don't want to turn away anyone who came in yesterday.. And on importing "Help", the Meta pages are the canonical references - possibly too much at times, but I was thinking we could pare them down later.. Cormaggio 18:20, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
Uh yeah, I made lots of changes to School:Music. It'd be nice to have them back. Thanks. --Fang Aili talk 19:47, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
ty for the advice
ty, sembol.
I have noted your advice.:)
You must be an expert. it takes one to know that i am a beginner here. sorry, I must have deleted some of your edit. I am volunteering here to help me finish my doctoral dissertation.Pmcalara 15:48, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
Foreign languages
About that school, the books will be imported from wikibooks or they will be created here?--VictorGuarnieri 22:11, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
- Textbooks will remain at Wikibooks. Organizational pages for Wikiversity should be imported. If you're interested, you should look over the pages that exist at Wikibooks and list the ones that you would like to see here at Wikiversity:Import. -- sebmol ? 22:17, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
thanks for the welcome
Hi Sebmol! thanks for the welcome. I do have a few questions in my mind. It'd be super cool if you'd help me out.
- What can we do here at wikiversity? I dont want to be neither a scholar nor a student here. I just want to contribute with learning material is it possible?
- If possible in what form can I contribute? Should the material I put in be in Wikipedia format? Or something else?
- It should be marked up using Wiki syntax. -- sebmol ? 12:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Where can I find the official rule list of Wikiversity, and are there any rules different than other wikis?
- Since the project started three days ago, we're still in the process of formulating our policies. You can participate by going to Wikiversity:Policies and leaving a comment or voting for some of the proposals. -- sebmol ? 12:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- Are userboxes legal here?
- Is there a limit to the subjects I can contribute to? Like if there's no medicine portal or any demand for it I shouldnt write stuff about that or such?
thanks in advance! --Suleyman Habeeb 11:31, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- You're welcome. -- sebmol ? 12:20, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
- cool! --Suleyman Habeeb 12:57, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Image:Wiki.png
Is this protected or not? I can find in the logs that you protected it on the 15th - but it's been changed and re-uploaded several times since - sometimes by non-admins, I would add. What's the story? Cormaggio 19:32, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- The log shows this image has been deleted after being protected. Deletion automatically unprotects a protected page/image. guillom 19:44, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks Guillom - now done :-) Cormaggio 09:55, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Re: Blocks
As HappyCamper said on my talk page, 'user..' is the defacto standard on Wikipedia for username blocks. Is there a different message you would like me to use?--digital_metalk 22:16, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I would prefer you give an actual reason for blocking someone. How are they or others supposed to know what the user got blocked for? Also, please don't block people for using numbers as user names. There's no good reason why that shouldn't be acceptable. -- sebmol ? 22:59, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
Policies
I'm a little confused by your comments on my talk page. Yes, I added the petition, but I did not restore anything, or change anything else on that page. Eclecticology 03:35, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
- Further to the above, the diffs would seem to contradict what I said. This is peculiar. I do remember that when I added I had difficulty saving my changes. It would keep reappearing with the full text of the proposed policies, but without my petition. I had no reason to be looking at older versions at that time, so I can't imagine that I was editing an obsolete version. Frankly, if the page had only included the links that it includes now I would have done nothing with it. This sounds very much like a software glitch of some kind. Eclecticology 17:11, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Pearle bot
Hi. JWSchmidt suggested I discuss my request on the Wikiversity:Request_custodian_action page with you. Thanks, TimNelson (Talk) 10:09, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I can help with that. I don't have any experience with that particular bot. -- sebmol ? 17:11, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Colloquium
Thanks for that... can you help me with creating some pages on business systems for people at w:Liverpool John Moores University?? --82.42.145.158 13:54, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- I don't know who to ask for help on creating these pages. --82.42.145.158 13:56, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

- Ah, ok. Wikiversity:Introduction is a good place to start. To create a new page, just write a link to it Like this, save the page, and click on the red link. There you can write the contents of the new page. -- sebmol ? 14:05, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

My custodianship
Since it's been a month since I was made a probationary custiodian, I was wondering if you had any comments or constructive criticisms to make about how I've performed.--digital_me 03:34, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- I'll be writing my recommendation shortly. I've been insanely busy lately but will get to it as soon as I get a free minute. -- sebmol ? 12:36, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm quite sorry about this. I got assigned a new project at work and it's taken more time than I thought. Thanks for joining up in the first place. Sorry to have let you down. ~ATrivedi
