Hi Erkan [edit]
Thanks for the welcome, just finding my feet Jim Cuthbert is my name I noted that in the box below it had Sign your name and thought this was appropriate , If it is not shall I remove it ? (The preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.69.56.91 (talk • contribs) 18:55, 19 March 2008.)
- Well, we can not be sure if it is your real life name, but if you contribute with that user account people can see that you edited the page - you can take also other names if you like as login. Another advantage is also: at the moment there is an IP and user name, so it would be merged and takes less space in the database.
- As I see you create new pages and add to them the according Wikipedia articles. Do you want to contribute also more ? Perhaps you would be so kind to tell more about what you plan ? Then we can also help you. Thx so far for your help, ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 19:00, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you [edit]
Hi Erkan,
I wanted to do something at work, so i liked to have the opportunity to be part of the reading group. The main reason for me to return to Wikiversity was because i wanted to do something with my time. I do have some ideas to develop Wikiversity, but they are very dependent of a similarity in wishes between me and other participants on Wikiversity. I know from my experience at Citizendium that there are many people with the same ideas as mine, regarding Wikipedia, so there could be a time when my ideas can become reality. What i want is a place on the internet where millions of people are discussing knowledge on an intellectual level. It doesn't necessary have to do with book reading, but books at least have a minimum level of intellectualism. With you i was able to be part of such a level, but we are only the two of us.--Daanschr 13:27, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think we can reach what you have in mind (perhaps just needs some time). Anyways: thanks again for your participation. ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 13:40, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

"Are you trying to convert the class already to true Wikiversitans ?" <-- I'm not sure I'd ever feel comfortable trying to drag people paying a high price for a professional education into an environment as experimental as Wikiversity. Also, its hard for me to generate much enthusiasm for putting highly technical and specialized information into Wikiversity....although sometimes when I have a chance I have started a page or two on advanced biology topics. It seems more important to give preference to coverage of topics that have a broader appeal and a higher chance of nucleating a group of collaborators. --JWSchmidt 03:43, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Possible mentor? [edit]
Hi Erkan,
As I'm submitting a GSoC application for the WV Technical needs stuff, I'm looking for possible mentors, and it would be nice to have one from within the WV community. I don't know your work commitments and so on, so I don't know if this is something you could possibly take on. Feel free to let me know what you think. Thanks Historybuff 07:09, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- My first thought was: we don't even get going a WCR :-( Let me think more. ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 16:34, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, WCR has been something that's come to the front burner a few times, but it hasn't ever reached critical enough mass to keep going on it's own, yet. I'm a persistant person though, and I'm not going away any time soon, so no worries there. The technical bits are all there for WCR, it's the human interfacing that I've lacked the time to concentrate on recently, but my hope is to simplify the tech process to the point where I'm not needed to run an individual session, but I'm just needed to feed and care for the overall process. I envisioned this process migrating to the Sandbox Server eventually, and I think I'll have to more aggressively persue that; for now, I've got a commitment of accessible server space, which will turn bandwidth into WCR master sessions.
All of that said, WCR is a spare time pursuit, and I would give the WV tech stuff my full attention if the GSoC application was successful. My concern now is that we could have a few things done, but since Mentors from the WMF are scarce, even a good WV focused application won't have a chance. I appreciate you being straightforward though. If you might not want to, could you suggest someone else who might be appropriate? And feel free to comment more, of course. Course Renaming Request: [edit]
Hi Erkan.
I need your help to rename a page in School of Electrical Engineering. The old course name is under the following link Psychometric test and Aptitude Tests under Orientation Box. I need this link to be in EE-PRE Electrical Engineering Orientation which is a Level 0 course or an entrance course.I dont want to create multiple copies of the same content.I think this is necessary and will help this course to mature if it is catagorized as an actual course, which it is. Please let me know once the above is done so i can start working on it, i've been working on a few ideas for this course. I hope I made sense.
Thanks in advance. - Thuvack 14:49, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hello Thuvack, while checking the links to this page: Psychometric test and Aptitude Tests: Preparing to be an Engineer I found that there are some pages linking to it:
- Psychometric_test_and_Aptitude_Tests:_Preparing_to_be_an_Engineer. Also I noticed that these pages which link to there are created by the user User:Thuvhack.
- 1. I guess that user is also an account from you ? That is why you asked before about your user login or ?
- 2. Do you want to change the pages also ? seems to me they are mostly unfinished. Any ideas to continue some time ?
- 3. btw: you can also move pages after 4 days have passed after registering your account ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 17:37, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi Erkan.Yes there are about 6 unfinished pages, that im just about ready to finish :-).I was using that user name thats why i needed a new log-in so i guess you could delete that user name as well.Yes, I've done a few rough drafts and Im learning how that quiz template work that can feed back on learner answers.Don't understand your point 3 though :-(. Thanks for your help.-Thuvack 05:31, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Of course, take your time. User accounts can not be deleted, since every edit needs a contributor. But since no other user than you uses that account, it also could just exist like it is ? About moving: see also: Help:Moving, renaming and removing pages. About 4 days after you have registered your actual user account here at Wikiversity (which was 13:15, 31 March 2008) you will see a new button called "move" on top of every page. With that you can rename/move pages also alone. If still unclear I could give more info (picture?). ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 06:39, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

rename [edit]
Good Afternoon Erkan,
We would like to retain the topic title "designing constructivist learning experiences" which you changed to "environment." There is a difference between the two terms. I wanted you to know that we were going to attempt to change the term back to the original. I failed doing this once. Is there a method to do this? Do you have administrative control over this function? We understand the nature of wikis and wikiversity: others can edit and make changes. This change is important to us and would like you to know that it affects the work we are doing.
Thanks for your consideration.
Best Regards, Shaun Hammer (The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.105.56.142 (talk • contribs) 21:11, 2 April 2008.)
- Hello Shaun, I assume you are talking about this page: Topic:Designing a Constructivist Learning Environment ?
- Please feel comfortable to select a name which makes it comfortable for you and others to work here at Wikiversity.
- (the history to the page name: this was moved in accordance with user Anthonys, see here (and I have an email from him - only first letters shown: a@i.e. ))
- A page normally can be moved by the move button (on top of every page) - probably this failed, because you did not try it with a Wikiversity user account which is registered since 4 days ?
- I will move it for you and also inform user Anthonys.
- I hope this all did not cause any inconvenience to you. In general anything in a wiki can be restored. So, please continue using Wikiversity as your learning space. ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 21:26, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

- Say is there a way to clean up Redirected pages. In the Case of the above I think it correct to keep, School Pages and Delete/Redirect from Topic Pages. Afterall these are schools not topics. -Thuvack 08:17, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you for the copying Thuvack.
- Well, the problem with deletion can be: some people have from external pages links to them. And if they get deleted and they visit again then they have a negative experience (they can though find the new page, but it needs effort, which some might not be willing to invest or can).
- On the other hand: these redirects take space in the database ? Since they are created, they won't be deleted anyway form the database, because you need to restore them in case something was deleted by mistake. So a deletion would cause also "space" in the database.
- But in general you can help us by improving the structure with pages if you notice something. And also: feel free to use the deletion templates from above, because you here just have one (my personal) opinion. :-( ----Erkan Yilmaz uses the Wikiversity:Chat (try) 16:24, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

regulate the use of the medicine, Pharmacy and dentistry ? [edit]
Thank you for your welcoming message.
I have a question, How are you going to regulate the use of the medicine, Pharmacy and dentistry....... etc pages? so that no one except health care professionals will read, edit and use it in learning or practice.
Because some people for example patients may use the pages to "diagnose" themselves and even "prescribe" medication or treatments based on what is written.
Note that not in all countries medications are strictly regulated, for example in some developing countries most medications are practically "over the counter" and any one can go to the pharmacy and get any drug.
Wish you good luck and sucess in all your efforts.--Ashashyou 21:48, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hello Ashashyou, thank you for your good observation.
- >so that no one except health care professionals will read, edit and use it in learning or practice.
- every page is readable by anyone at wikiversity and nearly all pages are editable, it is a wiki.
- You are right, that people might "diagnose" themselves and even "prescribe" ...
- BUT they should consider the Wikiversity:General disclaimer, see also: Wikiversity:Medical disclaimer. You could help us by also putting these on pages where you find it is appropriate. Timber washer in the shape of a star... [edit]
Perhaps someone should mention that the illustration that you use for barn stars is not a barn star. The image that you use is a timber washer which is shaped like a star.
- A Barn Star is an decorative piece of artwork in the front of some barns which is a large star. It is probably three feet wide or larger. There is only one per barn max normally.
- The Timber Washer (as shown here) along with a bolt and nut is used to hold two pieces of wood together. This washer is about four to six inches wide. There will be about a dozen or more in a single building.
