Research goals

In this project we intend to compare the relationship between Wikipedia and Wikiversity's attitudes towards certain types of disruptive editing. We will both study long-term attitudes as well as a specific case of an individual editor. The hypothesis to be tested is: "The high prevalence of editors banned from Wikipedia on Wikiversity impedes the project's ability to effectively and consistently deal with disruptive editing."

Preliminary considerations

• Wikiversity tends to have a more conciliatory approach to disruptive editors. There are both advantages and disadvantages to this.
• Wikipedia's approach tends to prevent any further disruption, but greatly reduces the chances of disruptive editors reforming and becoming productive editors, thus increasing the chance of long term disruption

Timetable

Research will start in October 2011, and end by around Summer 2012.
