Midterm Assignment 1: Taste & Aesthetics [edit]

The sculpture I picked was by Claes Oldenburg and is called “Typewriter Eraser” which is painted stainless steel and fiberglass. When I first started researching Oldenburg’s I wasn’t quite sure what to expect because I really didn’t like the sculpture in the park, however when I started looking at all the different things he has done I was very impressed. What Oldenburg does is take everyday things and does weird and interesting things with them. For instance one thing he did was he made a huge fountain that looks like a spoon with a cherry with the water coming out of the steam. As far as the “Typewriter Eraser” goes even when I went back a second time I realized that the reason why I didn’t like it was just because it wasn’t for me. I think the color scheme is really what set me back and the combination of stainless steel and fiberglass. So in the end I wasn’t able to manipulate my mind on this specific sculpture and honestly I don’t really mind because while researching I found that I like the artist, just not this particular piece. I’m not truly disappointed or depressed that I couldn’t really change my mind because it in this case I honestly wouldn’t give it a second thought. Another reason I’m not depressed is because as far as big sculptures go I just really think this is ugly this really is just something I don’t like and I don’t really think I’ll change my mind about it any time soon, plus this I did find that the artist does make some other amazing pieces of art.

Midterm Assignment 3: Always Wanted To Progress Report (100 words or so) [edit]

When I first started the project I intended to learn one song on the piano but ended up doing the “Fur Elise” by Beethoven. Learning this song hasn’t been the really tough part for me, what is tough is putting it all together. For instance I’ll learn the entire right hand then the left hand but when it comes to putting them together it can be hard but I am getting there. As far as finding information on the composer it hasn’t been a problem because he is really well known. So far for this project it is going really well.
