My name is Genny Murrell and I am a senior at UNC-Charlotte. I am a elementary education major and when I graudate I want to teach either 1st or 2nd grade. I wanted to become a teacher because I love working with children and have always wanted my profession to be geared towards working with kids. Currently I work at a After-School Program in a local school here in Charlotte and have been doing so for 3 years. I enjoy it there and think that it is a good learning expereince for what I will have to deal with in about another year. From this project I am hoping to learn a lot about German and Bulgarian education and how it is similar and different with our own education system. I think that this will be a spectacular learning experience and I hope that one day I will be able to do an activity like this with my class.

I know that teachers have an emotional effct on their first grade students because at this age they are so impressionable and they look up to you as a teacher and someone that is there in place of your mother or father. I know from experience of working in the school system that around this age they tend to hang on to every word you say. They watch you carefully and sometimes even mimic what you do. |
I want to know how hard this might be on the teacher. She may do something the students doesnt like and lose them at a young age. Can this emotional attachment be a negative thing? |
What I learned from this project was that teachers have a great impact on a child's creativity. They have an influence on how children express themselves. Whether it be through writing, drawing or words. Teacher play a big role in a child's life no matter what. It's important to always be positive teachers because being positive makes our children want to do more and learn more. I also learned that being attached doesn't always mean that it has to end up being negative. As long as the child understands the limits in the relationship then their shouldn't be an issue. |
