Bd.jpg ‎Greetings! My name is Ashley and I am from Denver, North Carolina. I have a pretty small family including a brother and sister, and my parents. I am the baby of the family, so I tend to get away with things most of the time. In my free time I love going to the beach or heading up the mountains for a snowboarding trip. For the first time I was able to travel out of the country and that was this summer to Montego Bay, Jamaica. It was very different than anything I have ever experienced. I was there a little under a week and by the end of the trip I was speaking "yea mon" to everyone. It seemed like a very laid back country. Growing up I was introduced to French as a second language, however, I grew more of an interest in speaking Spanish. I am not as up to date on Spanish as I would like to be,but I can certainly make my way through a conversation if needed. I am currently a full time student at University of North Carolina at Charlotte, working towards my degree in Elementary education! This is something that I have always wanted to do since I was a little girl.

  • How do we build knowledge in areas we are not specialized in?
  • What are the differences in areas of specialization between Germany and USA?
  • Are there different concepts of the term "specialization"?
  • What subjects do you teach on a daily basis in Germany?
  • Whether or not having penpal's will be beneficial for students
  • Are there concentration/specialization requirements for German Students?

  • Germany looks at specialization as taking classes to specifically teach in certain areas (additional qualification)
  • To build our knowledge in the area we are not specialized in there are workshops, classes can be taken, talk to advisors for suggestions, gain knowledge through tutoring.
  • International Projects/Penpals can be beneficial for all students! It is a way to introduce a class project and to learn about foreign cultures.
  • There are no specializations for elementary teachers in Germany
  • teachers have to take further training to become a special needs teacher, psycologist or counselor.
  • German teachers have to teach all subjects
  • Elementary Teachers in Germany teach almost every subject (math, German, English, Arts, S.S.)even if they have not taken classes on that specific subject. So they don't have specializations
  • Secondary schools do have areas of specializations because each subject is taught by a different teacher.
