Introduction[edit]

This is a page to be used for brief requests for custodian actions. This page is created in Abd's user space and is subject to his moderation. This page has no official status, but users and custodians may make and respond to requests here if they find it useful. This is being done as an experiment working toward what may be a more functional Wikiversity:Request custodian action process. See User talk:Abd/Request custodian action for more explanation. Volunteers are requested to help maintain this page. It is not necessary to be a custodian.

Procedure[edit]

To request a custodian action, please a brief description of the action requiring custodial tools in the appropriate section. If the reason for the action is not obvious, provide a brief reason for the action. If the custodian taking on the situation needs more information, that custodian will contact you on your user talk page. You may also place a link to a reason for the action elsewhere. Please do not debate requests here; custodians are expected to investigate situations adequately to make a reasonable judgment; if a custodian errs, the custodian's Talk page would be the place to first discuss it, not here. If a custodian has taken a case, anyone may, of course, raise issues with that custodian before or after decision and action, but not here.

Put a request in the "Need assistance" section, and start with a subheader showing the signature and timestamp for the request, use ===~~~~=== . (Four tildes enclosed with three equal signs on both sides.) Then add your request, with link(s). If you add anything later, sign it again. If you don't know how to do this properly, don't worry, a maintainer of this page will fix it.

Instructions and Suggestions for Custodians[edit]

Please respond to requests by moving the request to the Taken section, with your signature, or the "Done section." If you later turn the call over to another custodian, that should be noted, because users will assume that a custodian listed with a request here is taking the call and will investigate and decide in a reasonable time, and the requestor or other users (who might want to protest the action) will want to know whom to contact. Custodians have normal discretion as to how to respond, and may request evidence, if needed, or take other actions to provide a reasonable first resolution or response. This page is not intended to handle matters which should properly require discussion. Custodians should not take a case where they have a conflict of interest or personal involvement, unless there is an emergency. A requestor may ask that a custodian taking the case recuse, declining with a statement here, thus leaving the request open for a possible new assignment. No custodian is obligated to take any case. Requests which remain unanswered here may be archived after a time, but the maintainers of this page may specially request assistance for requests here at Request custodian action.

It is not necessary to review a request before "taking" it. However, if a custodian comes to believe that making a proper decision will be too complex, after some investigation, the custodian is requested to come back here and so state and give up the assignment. Or the custodian may conclude that discussion is required and suggest where that should take place.

Nothing on this page shall be construed to restrict the behavior of users or custodians as to activity outside this page. Use of this page is voluntary.

Some actions that might be requested here might better be requested on a specific page or with an appropriate template. For example, speedy deletion requests could better use a deletion template. If this page is not being adequately watched, and if a deletion is an emergency, Wikiversity:Request custodian action should be used, or IRC or direct email to a custodian. However, a user may not know proper procedure, so a possible custodian (or clerk/maintainer) decision here would be to assist the requesting user, either instructing the user how to do something, or doing it for the user, or both.

If you wish to decline the request of the user, please do not do that unless you are (1) not involved in the situation, and (2) believe that the action will harm the wiki. In this situation, absent expected harm, it is better to allow a user to find a custodian willing to help with the request, than to decline it.

Custodians may follow up here with a Result. However, that is optional. A maintainer of this page may follow up and report on the action taken. This page is a response queue.
