Greetings and welcome to a new kind of place! The Friedman Lab, part of the Wikiversity:Mentors program, is one of the world's first open online laboratories. New students and volunteers are welcome. Lab members have included professional researchers, as well as amateurs for whom traditional academic resources are limited, focused on another specialty or unavailable. Our diverse research program is dedicated to the study of evolution, especially nervous system evolution and marine biology. Areas these fields encompass include, but are not limited to biology, bioinformatics, genetics, physiology, paleobiology and philosophy. The Friedman Lab not only engages in empirical and theoretical studies, but also writes conceptual essays about the philosophical underpinnings of scientific assumptions and contributes to the learning resources on several wikis. Specific lab projects change every so often, and students and volunteers may also propose their own. Click the links above for more information about our current work.
