Spanish Language Division
Hello and welcome to the Wikiversity Spanish Language Division. This division coordinates and focuses studies on the Spanish language as a foreign language and Spanish language for native speakers. Here you can learn Spanish and explore its cultures, as well as teach others.
The Spanish, or Castilian, is a Romance language that originated in northern Spain and it was taken to Africa, the Americas and Asia Pacific between the 15th and 19th centuries. Today, Spanish is an official language of Spain, most Latin American countries and Equatorial Guinea; 21 nations speak it as their primary language. Spanish also is one of the six official languages of the UN; and 400 million people natively speak it, making it the most spoken Romance language, and the second most-spoken language by native speakers (1st Chinese). On the other hand, Spanish is the second most-studied language in the world (1st English).

Courses and Projects
|
The Spanish Language Division offers courses and projects of Spanish language for "foreign learners" (SFL), but also for "native speakers" (SNS). Courses are divided into six categories reflecting the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. The exact categorization wasn’t already established, so, note that for one level, more courses may be offered. They are about the same topic, but using different methodology.
If you are not sure about your level of knowledge, you can ask one of these teachers to test you. If you would like to help, visit the Teaching tools.
Courses and Projects being offered
- Spanish One: A course of Spanish language which has reached in summer 2006 has been reopen. It is based on a live communication with a teacher via Skype. As a methodology, a book Spanish developed on Wikibooks is used. This course is focused on beginners.
- Bilingual Spanish-English Dictionary: A project for people who see a need to develop a suitable environment for Wikiversity dictionary and make a database, for people who would like to offer to participants a "wiki" bilingual dictionary.
