[edit] History
Main Wikipedia article: History of Regional Geography
Regional geography started out as an idea that geography should be broken up by region. This idea enjoyed its golden age with figures like Alfred Hettner, Vidal de la Blache, and Richard Hartshorne. The latter of these, however, wanted to divide all geography into regional geography. Since this is not feasible, there was a decline in this study at that point. However, as of late, regional geography has grown more favorable, as we have had more and more subjects that come up that has to be defined using regional geography.
